GROUP COACHING
As with individual coaching we are able to offer opportunities to focus on a variety of skills and techniques at group coaching sessions. We aim to keep, where possible our group coaching numbers small to ensure that learning and progress is maximised for riders within a group dynamic.
In group coaching sessions, BMX skills and techniques are frequently developed using the ‘Practice-and-play method.’ This is where we focus on the fundamentals, we work together to put it into play by creating specific games around each skillset and then we put it into practice. The outcome is a perfect blend of learning and fun!
At SEND-IT! we specifically design activities that make learning engaging and fun, ensuring riders challenge themselves, reflect and make sustained progress. Having fun whilst learning also helps riders retain more information because the process is more enjoyable and memorable.

Practice and play method
Scientists have discovered that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain, unless it is done in play, in which case it only takes 10 to 20 repetitions

Alternative Provision
At SEND-IT! we recognise the huge importance that Alternative Provision has for some children and young people in their educational journey.
SEND-IT! BMX Academy’s Alternative Provision offer enables young people to change the direction of their lives. Through BMX coaching with a specific trauma-informed approach, we drive to develop and nurture positive relationships with a strong focus on core values such as kindness, commitment and resilience. Our key focus is to support pupils to re-engage with education, reflect on their strengths and areas of development and ultimately empower them to explore and take positive ownership of their lives and their choices through the sport of BMX racing.
We offer an Alternative Provision service to schools and Local Authorities for children and young people who are disengaged, demonstrate behaviour that challenges and have been or are at risk of exclusion. We work in collaboration with professionals to create a bespoke programme for groups and individuals. The skills we develop on the track at the start of the programme are then transferrable to other areas of the learner’s education and lives.
We work in close collaboration with schools to ensure that beyond the physical benefits of BMX, pupils:
Increase in self-confidence and experience success.
Develop the ability to self–reflect and feel empowered to make positive changes
Understand the functions and impact of their behaviour
Develop resilience and strategies to overcome hurdles
The number of young people attending AP has increased by over 3,100 (10%) to 35,600 since 2020/21 (DfE, 2022). Worryingly, there are increasing numbers of children and young people with mental health needs in alternative provision, and there is a growing recognition and evidence base that demonstrates that pupils’ mental health and wellbeing influence their educational attainment.
Recent research led by Dr Thomas Quarmby and Professor Anthony Maher at Leeds Beckett University, aimed to explore the role and value of physical education and sport in Alternative Provision settings. It was funded by the Youth Sport Trust and collated the following data:
90% of AP schools deliver some form of physical education
More than half of AP schools (51%) do not have a dedicated indoor space available for the delivery of PE
Only 43% of AP schools report having access to a dedicated outdoor space
60% of AP schools rated their PE equipment as average, poor or very poor
57% of AP providers suggested that physical education was delivered by a specialist physical education teacher, 46% suggesting it was delivered by a generalist classroom teacher, and 30% reporting that it was delivered by a sports coach
This data highlights the importance of AP provision and schools being able to access high quality sports based learning in the local community such as SEND-IT BMX Academy!
WE ALSO OFFER:
School club provision
